What Design can do for Climate Change.

Vision

I would call it the "DCC mode"- Using Design Concepts to solve for relevant topics that concerns us. I see the vision for this project as a small droplet in the ocean of rapid urbanization and problems associated with them. However to be able to contribute to atleast 1 community that is in the news somewhere in the world and is affected by climate change and producing a documentation of the impact of making small sustainable choices over 6 months is an endeavor to show that change is possible and it is not too late. Sometimes I feel we get consumed negatively by the data around us and that stops us from working towards what we consider a problem.

This is an attempt to shift mindsets of being an individual working as a cog between wheels to a more independent and empowered version of yourself. (Designers will relate to this the most)

From my exploration so far, one of the assumption could be that sustainable options need to become a norm of a community, however big or small they maybe. And as designers we can create inclusive systems right at the starting point of the journey. Overall Timeline: 6 months

Initial Approach:

With the challenge is to study a community affected by climate change. I would like to use the human centred design process to discover - define - diverge - validate

Within a shorter timeline of 4 weeks, I wish to set a smaller pilot for the first month of what can be achieved and promoted on a larger forum towards the end of a 6 month long exercise.

Deliverables for this phase would be to identify-

Who are the people affected?

Mapping the needs of the people

What meta-data can be generated?

What are the various locations that are similarly affected?

Which local partner organization they can work with or already working with?

Gain insight in 4 weeks to develop a framework to work with people in the community with specific needs around the frame work of SDGs.

The outcomes for this phase would be:

Improving or creating digital platforms that can be used by the community to clearly express their needs with the partner organisation and enabling local partner organizations and larger organizations to respond and support with urgency.
